Alcohol Causes Violence conference

Alcohol Causes Violence conference (next Tuesday) on the internet

Details about the Alcohol Causes Violence Conference at Te Papa, Tuesday 23rd March can be found at http://www.alcoholaction.co.nz
Registrations are now closed because it is fully subscribed, but you can access the conference electronically in two ways.

We have organised it so that people outside Wellington can view the conference live at one of 12 public meetings where the speakers and discussion will be screened live on a big screen, along with tea, coffee, biscuits and excellent company. The venues are as follows:

Northland
North Shore (Auckland)
Central Auckland
Otara
Tauranga
Motueka
Nelson
Blenheim
Christchurch
West Coast (delayed coverage - week after)
Timaru
Dunedin

with other venues TBC.

Contact Fergus Wheeler for details and contacts - coordinator@alcoholaction.co.nz

Alternatively, you can also access the conference through your own PC if you have broadband. Here are detailed instructions on how you can do that. It's easy. Just go to the website www.alcoholaction.co.nz, click on the link, click once more once you're at the web-stream welcome page, and you're there. The information below is just in case you strike problems.

1) Click on the link on the www.alcoholaction.co.nz homepage. You will arrive at the welcome page for the web-stream.

2) If you have good broadband, choose the 384kbps web cast stream., otherwise choose the 128kbps stream. If during the webcast, the video breaks up or stops, refresh your web page (Crtl-R or F5). If it repeatedly stops, then go to the 128kbps stream as your broadband isn't handling things. This webcast will NOT work on a dial up modem.

3) The dial up option is not available for this webcast.

4) On the 384k page (and also the 128k) you may see a blue and white Silverlight logo. Clicking on this will install Silverlight for you. This may not work for some organisations where the IT folks restrict you from installing software. In this case choose the "pop-up player" option below the Silverlight logo.

You don't have to use Silverlight, we offer it as it works better for Macintosh users.

After Silverlight has installed, you should refresh the web page (CRTL-R or F5) and then click on the play button in the video window on the right. As the video loads (there will be a delay) you should see a rotating circle of dots. After about 10 to 20m seconds, you should see video. If you want to see it full screen, there is a button on the right of the video player window.

5) If you click on the "pop-up player" then windows media player will appear and after about 10 to 20 seconds (buffering) you should see the video.

6) There is a full screen option in windows media player (Alt-enter).

7) As the present time, the webcast is showing a test pattern of colour bars and a tone. On Tuesday at about 8:30, this will be changed to a graphic screen announcing the conference. That will be when the webcast team are live at Te Papa.

8) The edited conference will be available up on the website a week after the conference.
